Intentional Camera Movement: Landscape In Motion

Landscape in Motion
Description of the Project:
This project revolves on Intentional Camera Movement or ICM. The concept of ICM uses camera movements to take abstracted shots of stationary subjects. There are three basic ways to alter the natural appearance of the scenes using this technique. These are the Intentional Vertical, Horizontal and Rotating Camera Movements. These directional movements allow the bouncing of the image points in the camera to deconstruct the appearance of the shot it is recording, which is a play between a blurry and streaky result that is devoid of a necessary sharpness that could have readily reveal the image.
In this particular project, I was on board a train when I decided to capture the scenic landscape the train was passing by in a way that would satisfy my vision using the horizontal or sideways movement. I wanted to create a unique image using the motion of forces around me that would show a painterly effect through the smoothing and blurring of the sharpness of the image. I then slowed down my phone’s shutter speed, held and stuck it against the train’s window and waited for the creative abstraction to unfold as the ambient light struck my phone’s camera lens. I waited for different sceneries that carried catchy colors in them before I restarted the process again.
As a photographer, I always put a strong emphasis on creating a distinctive image that would not be readily duplicated by others, because it is through this approach that we can call our artistry truly our own.

Plan to Complete the Project:
To complete the project, I will experiment on using different approaches or media in facilitating the movement of my phone. I may also try different locations or subjects until I feel satisfied by the results. The proceeds of this project will go to the initiative I started to help fund kids with cancer, which is called Mission: Save Kids with Cancer.

The Five Goals I wish to Achieve with this Project:
1.) Create new images of 20 or more  with improved dynamism as I experiment with new ways to capture my subject.
2.) Make and sell prints, where the proceeds will go to the Mission: Save Kids with Cancer.
3.) Include the images in a book that I may soon print, the proceeds of which will go to the same initiative.
4.) Enhance more my knowledge about the abstraction in photography world.
5.) Share my new knowledge who want to learn this technique.
